Soft Tissue Biopsy Aftercare
Apply gauze gently as needed for bleeding
- You will be provided gauze packs after your procedure. While biopsy sites do not tend to bleed very much, if you notice active bleeding, apply gentle pressure with gauze over the surgical area for about 30 minutes. Repeat this process until the bleeding subsides.
Take over the counter pain medication
- We recommend taking over the counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or tylenol prior to the local anesthetic wearing off. If a stronger pain medication was prescribed, this can be taken to supplement over the counter medicines.
Avoid taking medications on an empty stomach
Resume activities as tolerated
- You may resume normal activities as you feel comfortable
Brushing
- Brush all of your teeth beginning the day of surgery in front of a mirror to gently clean the teeth adjacent to the surgery site.
Eat soft foods
- We recommend eating softer foods for the first 1-2 days and advancing your diet as you feel comfortable
Return to our office in 1-2 weeks
- We will schedule a follow up visit in 1-2 weeks to review the pathology results and ensure you are healing appropriately
